A little Italian clown and some baby animals put on a show for a town that can't afford Christmas。 Definitely not one of Tomie's best。 The ending seemed very abrupt, and it makes me wonder if the library's copy might not be missing a few pages。 A little Italian clown and some baby animals put on a show for a town that can't afford Christmas。 Definitely not one of Tomie's best。 The ending seemed very abrupt, and it makes me wonder if the library's copy might not be missing a few pages。 。。。more

Another beautiful book by dePaola。 This time the circus is travelling through on a regular stop but since the people are poor MOST of the circus move on。 Jingle has a different idea。 Full of dePaola's signature style and lots of generosity。 Another beautiful book by dePaola。 This time the circus is travelling through on a regular stop but since the people are poor MOST of the circus move on。 Jingle has a different idea。 Full of dePaola's signature style and lots of generosity。 。。。more
Jana,
This is a nice holiday picture book that shares the story of how one lonely little clown learned that he was not too little to help the people in a small village celebrate Christmas Eve。 Jingle is in charge of the baby animals of a traveling circus。 When he is left to care for the animals while the rest of the circus travels on to a more affluent city to perform, he receives the generous hospitality and care of the older townspeople。 As a way of repaying them, he decides to perform a circus show This is a nice holiday picture book that shares the story of how one lonely little clown learned that he was not too little to help the people in a small village celebrate Christmas Eve。 Jingle is in charge of the baby animals of a traveling circus。 When he is left to care for the animals while the rest of the circus travels on to a more affluent city to perform, he receives the generous hospitality and care of the older townspeople。 As a way of repaying them, he decides to perform a circus show with the baby animals on Christmas Eve and learns to true magic of giving。 。。。more
Carfig,
Heart-warming story of a traveling circus that must leave the youngest troupe members behind in a small town that has hit upon hard times and can't afford to pay for the circus this year。 The young clown and baby animals figure out a way to have a happy Christmas anyway。 Love the animal illustrations! The young clown is always in makeup, but that probably helps reinforce the idea to young audiences。 Heart-warming story of a traveling circus that must leave the youngest troupe members behind in a small town that has hit upon hard times and can't afford to pay for the circus this year。 The young clown and baby animals figure out a way to have a happy Christmas anyway。 Love the animal illustrations! Readers young and old will treasure this sweet narrative that celebrates the spirit of Christmas and spotlights the joy of giving, both of which shine through in this special story。Highly recommended。 。。。more

The baby animals and youngest clown stay in a town that can no longer support a circus performance。 For Christmas Eve, they give a show from their heart。

Cute story about very young people/animals and very old people making a Christmas celebration together when they thought they couldn't。I found the ending a bit abrupt。 Cute story about very young people/animals and very old people making a Christmas celebration together when they thought they couldn't。I found the ending a bit abrupt。 。。。more
Judy,
I started reading Tomie dePaola's books because of the Italian settings。 Here, he uses a small Italian village that has fallen on hard times。 Along comes a traveling circus with baby animals and a young clown 。。。 what follows is Christmas magic。(This is the only Christmas book I've seen that features a circus。) I started reading Tomie dePaola's books because of the Italian settings。 Here, he uses a small Italian village that has fallen on hard times。 Along comes a traveling circus with baby animals and a young clown 。。。 what follows is Christmas magic。(This is the only Christmas book I've seen that features a circus。) 。。。more

love this story
jacky,
Too long for William to enjoy at three years old, but I enjoyed the heart warming tale of the young giving a self made gift to the old。 Very much filled with the true meaning of Christmas。

I don't know, that village doesn't look empty to me。 This may just be some old-people conspiracy to cheat a confused child-clown out of a free performance from his dancing monkeys。 Or an adult-clown conspiracy to ditch their gullible child-clown。 Or both! Also, ew, clowns。 I don't know, that village doesn't look empty to me。 This may just be some old-people conspiracy to cheat a confused child-clown out of a free performance from his dancing monkeys。 Or an adult-clown conspiracy to ditch their gullible child-clown。 Or both! Also, ew, clowns。 。。。more

Such a cute book! The illustrations are amazing, as I expected from dePaola。 He never fails to amaze。 This is a wonderful book that shows that anyone, no matter how small, can make a difference if they have a BIG heart =)

This is a really cute story about a piccolo pagliaccio--"little clown" named Jingle who brings his even tinier version of Il Circo Piccolo "The small Circus," to a village。 Set in Italia, this story is very heartwarming and beautifully done。 The townsfolk are sweet and Jingle is a true shining golden star---Stelline d'oro。 The illustrations are easily recognized as being by Tomie dePaola with the warmth and tenderness they always seem to exude。 The last page includes a very simple recipe to mak This is a really cute story about a piccolo pagliaccio--"little clown" named Jingle who brings his even tinier version of Il Circo Piccolo "The small Circus," to a village。 Set in Italia, this story is very heartwarming and beautifully done。 The townsfolk are sweet and Jingle is a true shining golden star---Stelline d'oro。 The illustrations are easily recognized as being by Tomie dePaola with the warmth and tenderness they always seem to exude。 The last page includes a very simple recipe to make a wonderful batch of Donna Chiara's Stelline d'Oro Cookies written by Mary Ann Esposito, host of the public television show "Ciao Italia" for you and your little reader。 My oven is literally warming up as I write and the ingredients have been placed on the island in the kitchen。 A very nice way to end a story。 Yum! Doreen,
Tomie dePaola again tells a beautiful story with pages adorned with his precious illustrations。 Little Jingle brings the magic of Christmas to the nearly deserted town。 He and the baby animals put on a show of their own for the old-timers who have been left behind。 The story is touching and the "living Christmas tree" is a perfect finale。 Tomie dePaola again tells a beautiful story with pages adorned with his precious illustrations。 Little Jingle brings the magic of Christmas to the nearly deserted town。 He and the baby animals put on a show of their own for the old-timers who have been left behind。 The story is touching and the "living Christmas tree" is a perfect finale。 。。。more
